Holy Week:

Palm Sunday, Sunday April 5th, 10:00 am.  Join us for the traditional parade of palm branches as we remember Jesus’ final entry into the city of Jerusalem and celebrate communion recalling his last Passover Seder with his disciples.

P’nai Or Seder on Maundy Thursday.  We are invited to join P’nai Or for their Passover Community Seder on Thursday, April 9th at 6 pm. Reservations are required by contacting Batya Podos at 503-848-9219 or Batsong@comcast.net.

Good Friday, Friday, April 10th, 7:30 pm.  We gather to reflect together on the story of Jesus’ last supper, arrest, trial, and execution.  The Tenebrae candles are extinguished one by one as we read, sing and pray through the scripture texts describing Jesus' Passion.

Easter Celebration of the Resurrection, Sunday, April 12th, 10:00 am.  The sanctuary is adorned in all its Easter glory as we come together in celebration of new life and liberation that is ours in the life of Christ.  At St. Mark we decorate a wire cross with fresh flowers and invite everyone who chooses to do so to bring some flowers or tree blossoms from their yard to add to the cross.  Fancy Easter Hats are also welcome and offerings of hot-crossed buns or other Easter treats for our Easter Fellowship Feast following worship. We encourage everyone with children to stay after worship long enough to take part in our annual Easter Children/Youth Group photo.

Lenten Preaching Series. During the five Sundays of Lent, Pastor Barbara has been preaching on texts from the 14th chapter of Mark, which are part of the traditional Passion Narrative read on Good Friday. We will step back and celebrate Palm Sunday on the Sunday before Easter.

Painted Lady Butterfly Larvae have arrived!  Shhhh!  They’re sleeping like babies!!  If you tiptoe into the pastor’s office after worship you can see our 30 new babies, each in their own plastic “crib” where they will grow for about two weeks before being moved, in their cocoons, to our butterfly cage. Please do not disturb the “cribs” at all! Our full grown butterflies will be ready for release on Easter Sunday, (we hope!) UPDATE 3/31 PM: The larvae are beginning to form their cocoons!  They are tripled in size in just two weeks!! We should be on schedule for an Easter unveiling.

Worship Note for Children.

We encourage parents to help children learn the repetitive response of our Call to Worship.  The first hymn is usually somewhat repetitive so that even non-readers can join in singing. Percussion instruments for children are available for use during the first hymn. We also invite children to volunteer to light the Christ candle or speak the beginning of the Passing of the Peace.

Raise Funds for St. Mark when you Search or Shop Online.  Check out these websites:  www.iGive.com and www.iSearchiGive.com. Both of these sites are set up to send small donations to St. Mark for each time the site is used.  The iGive site involves online shopping. The iSearchiGive site is a search engine like Google that puts one cent into the St. Mark account for every valid search. If you are someone who uses the web a lot each day, we would appreciate the extra funds using these sites could bring in. On the site you will be asked to enter the organization you are supporting.  Just type in “St Mark Presbyterian Church.”
