St. Mark Scrip Sales. Scrip are gift cards for use at grocery stores, restaurants, movie theaters, gas stations, and other commercial establishments in the Portland area. For each gift certificate you purchase you receive the same amount in a gift card and St. Mark receives 7-25% of the purchase back from the establishment. This is a quick and "painless" way to support the mission of St. Mark. The next chance to order Scrip will be Sunday, May 3rd, following worship, for pickup on Sunday, May 10th. Future order dates are May 17th, May 31st, June 14th, July 5th, Aug 2th and Aug 30th.
Raise Funds for St. Mark when you Search or Shop Online. Check out these websites: www.iGive.com and www.iSearchiGive.com. Both of these sites are set up to send small donations to St. Mark for each time the site is used. The iGive site involves online shopping. The iSearchiGive site is a search engine like Google that puts one cent into the St. Mark account for every valid search. If you are someone who uses the web a lot each day, we would appreciate the extra funds using these sites could bring in. On the site you will be asked to enter the organization you are supporting. Just type in “St Mark Presbyterian Church.”

SW Hope Food Drive Big Success! As of the last report the drive had raised $23,402 ($19,902 received + $3,500 pledged) and collected 18,728 pounds of food! That means SW HOPE has brought in the equivalent of 135,738 pounds of food thus far! This is a nice increase over last year when the totals were: $21,695, plus 13,762 pounds of food. These are truly remarkable outcomes, especially in these challenging economic times. Rick Nitti sends a big “THANK YOU!” for the time, energy, love and generosity of their partner congregations.
Vegetable Garden Starts! On Sunday, May 10th you may receive or trade young plants for your vegetable garden. Also check out on the foyer bulletin board, the monthly list of locally grown fruits and vegetables available in our markets. For information on either of these projects contact Johanna Norton or Suzanne Chase.

April Session Report Session met on Tuesday, April 21, 2009. March minutes were approved. March financial report will be emailed to session this week by treasurer who reports no problems with cash flow this month. Members Jack and Norine Miller were officially transferred to St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, even though they had joined that church in 2004. Nurture Team reported that rosemary plant starts have been potted to give to visitors this Spring. Building and Grounds reported that we have already spent all of our 2009 line item for building repairs ($1,000) on maintenance on our three furnaces, and repairing ballasts in Jarrett wing and Plumbing in kitchen. Worship reported that Carol Stewart-Smith will begin her 30th year as Choir Director at St Mark is August and John Salmon will be celebrating 50 years of ordination in a service at St. Mark on June 21st. The By-laws of St. Mark were then reviewed and amendments were suggested. Leas Averill will type up the suggested amendments for session's approval and those amendments will then be taken to the congregation for a vote at our Spring Congregational Meeting in late May or early June. Sue Graf was appointed by session to serve as chair of this year's nominating committee. The Nominating Committee will be meeting on Monday, May 4th to begin filling two session elder positions, the position of Clerk of Session, Corporate Officers, Personnel Committee, and next year's Nominating Committee. Finally, John Salmon and Leas Averill have agreed to create a proposal for establishing an endowment fund for St. Mark.
